Drug and Allergy Interaction in the Console (eRx, Prescribe)
Medications and allergies are codified in the console. This means that the pharmaceutical codes are now recorded in the console and linked to specific medications and allergies by using the search function. This also means that the console will now show interactions between medications and allergies before prescribing.
When adding a new medications or allergies you will be prompted with matches from a drug and allergy database
If you manually add a drug or allergy you will see an alert letting you know it is not included in interaction checking
This video demonstrates how you will see codified meds and allergies in the console:
To recap the changes in the console
any manually entered medications or allergies will not be codified - but you will have the alert in the console alerting you
to add a new medication or allergy you simply click add
inactive medications and allergies will be listed under the inactive tabs
when you prescribe through the console - there will now be a drug interactions pop up if applicable
If an interaction is considered “major” you will only be able to send the prescription after acknowledging the interaction
