Admit, Discharge and Transfer (ADT) Messages

Admit, Discharge and Transfer (ADT) messages are important in HL7 communications because they provide vital data about the patient and why the message is being sent. Trigger events are instrumental in driving message flow, because they determine when and where messages go based on the type of event that has occurred.

98point6 utilizes the ADT message with an A04 trigger event to signal that the patient has registered and/or visited. These messages are generated at multiple points during the visit (and sent when the patient’s record is updated):

  • patient requests a visit

  • provider joins the visit

  • visit is completed

Each of the points within a visit contains segments that hold important information exchanged during the visit:
